Clinical Trial Diversity

Increased Diversity in Clinical Trials

The Allergan Aesthetics Research and Development team is focused on programs and tangible actions to increase diversity and inclusion in our clinical trials programs. A cross-functional task force is committed to seeking out ways to accelerate enrollment of more representative populations in development of future treatments via four key focus areas:

  • Defining Diversity: Piloting expanded demographic categories in select aesthetics studies
  • Education: Continuing to provide physicians with opportunities to learn about and discuss the importance of including patients of diverse backgrounds in clinical research and how to gain the skills necessary to become investigators for these trials in the future
  • Patient Centricity: Developing patient entry roadmaps that leverage KOL and patient insights to inform program recruitment plans as well as setting up pilot projects to test best practice standards for diverse patient enrollment
  • Building Tools to Enable Expansion: Driving inclusion of diverse assets to enhance bespoke Aesthetics Clinical Investigator 3D training and exploring the opportunity to move beyond the Fitzpatrick Skin Phototype as the primary skin typing classification tool

In 2023, the team hosted the first Aesthetics Diversity Summit, which brought together physicians for education and mentoring to help advance the next generation of clinical investigators in aesthetics medicine.
